PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) — The City of Philadelphia issued a traffic update as the Highway 15/16 roundabout project prepares to enter a new phase — but drivers should note the start date has been pushed back.

According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s website, the Phase 3 traffic pattern change has been rescheduled from Monday, May 4th to Thursday, May 7th.

The update follows a story Queen City Newsfeed first reported on April 24th, when MDOT announced the upcoming phase of the roundabout construction project in Philadelphia, Neshoba County.

Here’s what drivers can expect beginning May 7th:

  • Highway 16 at West Beacon Street will reopen
  • Highway 15 will be closed between SR-885 and Lakeside Drive
  • The connection from Lakeside Drive to SR-16 will open

This traffic pattern will remain in place through November 1, 2026. Detour route signage and temporary traffic signals will be in place at both ends of SR-885 to help guide motorists through the new configuration.

The City of Philadelphia is asking residents whose daily commute is affected to plan ahead and allow extra travel time. Officials are also reminding drivers to slow down in the work zone and stay alert for roadside workers and changing traffic patterns.

“This is a new setup for all of us, and we appreciate your continued patience as these improvements are completed for our community,” the city said in its Facebook post.

Drivers can stay up to date on this and other MDOT construction projects through the agency’s official website and traffic resources.
