MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A puppy was safely reclaimed after being found inside a vehicle at a local repossession yard, according to the City of Meridian Animal Control.
Animal Control Director Brian McCary said officers responded after employees at the repossession yard discovered the puppy inside a vehicle that had been brought onto the property.
Officers quickly arrived at the scene, assessed the puppy’s condition and began working to locate and contact the animal’s owner.
As a result of the investigation, the owner was charged with leaving an animal unattended in a motor vehicle. Officials said the violation is intended to protect animals from potentially dangerous conditions.
Animal Control officials said temperatures inside a vehicle can rise rapidly, even on days that may not seem excessively hot. Leaving a pet unattended in a vehicle can place the animal at serious risk of injury or death.
McCary said the actions of the repo yard employees helped prevent the situation from becoming more serious.
“We’re grateful for the employees who noticed the puppy and took the time to make the call,” McCary said. “Their quick actions helped ensure this story had a positive ending.”
City of Meridian Animal Control encourages anyone with concerns about the welfare of an animal to contact Animal Control so appropriate action can be taken.
