Mississippi residents can fish license-free on July 4

Mississippi residents will be able to fish without a license on July 4 as part of the state’s Free Fishing Day, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

MDWFP said Mississippi residents may sport fish without a license that day.

However, officials said permits will still be required to fish at state-owned lakes.

The department said Free Fishing Days are designed to give people a chance to try fishing for the first time or allow experienced anglers to introduce someone new to the sport.

Residents looking for a public fishing lake can visit the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks website.
