MADISON – Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced Wednesday that she is running for governor in 2027.
Fitch began an eight-stop, three-day tour across the state to launch her campaign.
Fitch has served as Mississippi’s attorney general for the past six years. In her announcement, she highlighted her work with law enforcement, efforts to combat fraud, involvement in immigration enforcement and legal actions involving abortion, Title IX and social media companies.
“I have never shied away from making the tough choices,” Fitch said. “I have never been afraid to put innovative ideas into action. I have never backed down from a fight.”
Fitch said her campaign will focus on affordability, public safety and economic growth while emphasizing what she described as Mississippi’s conservative values.
She also said she supports continuing or accelerating the phase-out of Mississippi’s income tax, improving access to health care, supporting small businesses and encouraging additional economic development.
Fitch pointed to Mississippi’s recent education gains and said she wants to build on that progress.
“The Mississippi Miracle in education isn’t the end goal,” Fitch said. “It is the beginning of the Mississippi Momentum in education.”
She also emphasized her support for President Donald Trump and described herself as a “Trump conservative with Mississippi values.”
Fitch said she would continue serving as attorney general while campaigning.
“This isn’t just a job for me. It never has been,” she said. “This has always been an opportunity to serve and deliver on the trust you have placed with me.”
Fitch is seeking to succeed Gov. Tate Reeves, whose second term ends in January 2028.
