EMEPA prepares for potential impacts from Tropical Storm Isaias
East Mississippi Electric Power Association (EMEPA) is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Isaias and preparing for potential outages and damage across its service area.
EMEPA has employees, equipment and response plans in place and is in contact with contractors and mutual-aid partners to prepare for additional assistance if needed.
If the storm causes damage, members should stay away from downed or damaged power lines and treat every power line as if it is energized. Report downed lines to 911 or EMEPA, warn others to stay away and do not cut power or fiber lines while clearing debris. Cutting fiber lines could delay restoration and result in costly repairs.
Members can report outages through the
- EMEPA app,
- Outage map at EMEPA.com,
- Texting OUT to 601-483-7361 or
- Calling 601-581-8600.
EMEPA also reminds members to use generators safely. Never connect a portable generator directly to a home’s wiring, as it can backfeed electricity onto power lines and put linemen at risk. Generators should never be operated in an enclosed area or in standing water.
For storm preparedness and outage information, visit the Storm and Outage Center at EMEPA.com or follow EMEPA on social media.
EMEPA is an electric distribution cooperative serving more than 38,000 families and businesses in Winston, Kemper, Lauderdale, Clarke counites and portions of Attala, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Jasper and Wayne counties.
