Meridian Man Faces Up to 10 Years After Guilty Plea on Gun Charge

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) A Meridian man pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Anteiar Martin, 36, entered the plea on October 5, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi.

Firearms Found During Search Warrant

According to court documents and statements made in open court, investigators found two firearms in Martin’s possession on July 30, 2020. At the time, officers were executing a search warrant at a residence in Meridian.

Federal law prohibits anyone with a prior felony conviction from possessing a firearm. Martin pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with violating that law, Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1).

Sentencing Set for February

Martin will face sentencing on February 5, 2027. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

However, the final sentence rests with a federal district court judge. The judge will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors before deciding.

Agencies Involved

U.S. Attorney J.E. Baxter Kruger and Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced the plea.

The ATF and the East Mississippi Drug Task Force investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Amber Jones, Matthew W. Allen, Charles W. Kirkham and Adam T. Stuart are prosecuting it.

The case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Department of Justice initiative. The program brings federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement together with prosecutors to fight violent crime in local communities.
