MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed), Mississippi Power is sending help to our neighbors in Alabama.

A team of 150 Mississippi Power workers left Saturday for Alabama. They will help bring power back after Hurricane Isaias moved across the state Friday night and Saturday morning.

The crews and support workers left from service centers across the company’s area. That includes the Coast, Hattiesburg and Meridian, according to Mississippi Power.

Mississippi Was Mostly Spared

Isaias came ashore Friday night near Destin, Florida. From there, it pushed north into Alabama.

Before the storm hit, the National Weather Service warned people along the coast to get ready for power outages that could last a long time.

For most Mississippi Power customers, however, the worst of the storm stayed east.

“We’re grateful our customers were largely spared from the weather and we’re happy to answer the call from our neighbors to help with the restoration efforts,” said TJ Pruitt, distribution manager for Mississippi Power.

Safe Travel Comes First

The crews will spend Saturday on the road. After that, they will start fixing lines in the towns hit by the storm.

“Our focus today is traveling safely and then we’ll get to work as soon as we can to help those communities,” Pruitt said.

Mississippi Power spokeswoman Kaila Moran Griffith said the company will share more updates as the work goes on. Queen City Newsfeed will update this story as we learn more
