Lauderdale County Grand Jury Issues Final Report for March 2025 Term

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Lauderdale County Grand Jury for the March 2025 term has concluded its work, issuing its final report after three days in session. According to the official filing, the Grand Jury examined 24 witnesses, returned 150 true bills of indictment, and issued 13 no true bills.

As part of its duties, the Grand Jury also conducted an inspection of the Lauderdale County Detention Facility. In its report, jurors described the facility as clean and safe, but noted it is outdated. The jury formally recommended that the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors begin planning either for the construction of a new detention center or the renovation of the existing one.

Additional recommendations from the Grand Jury included the purchase of a more reliable van or bus for jury transportation, the issuance of Tasers to correctional officers at the facility, and consideration of a pay increase for deputies and correctional officers. The latter, the report stated, would aid in the recruitment and retention of law enforcement personnel within the county.

The official report was submitted to the Lauderdale County Circuit Court on April 2, 2025. In a signed affidavit, Grand Jury Foreperson Kiearra Ball affirmed that all indictments were agreed upon by at least 12 members, with a quorum of 15 present for all deliberations.

The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors is expected to review the Grand Jury’s recommendations in the coming weeks.
