MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors approved a motion Monday morning to purchase a portable building, to temporarily house Lauderdale County E-911 dispatch.

Josh Todd with the Lauderdale Board of Supervisors says this comes after multiple leaks were reported in the roof of their original building.

“Chris, our administrator, got a call that the roof was flooding in our E-911 building, which is our LEMA building. With all that happening, we had several entities in that building as well that had to be relocated,” said Todd.

The plan now is to replace the roof of the building, then repair damage caused by water and renovate the interior.

Todd says the renovation will be people-oriented, with input from the men and women who work tirelessly to keep the county safe.

“We already have those contracts out for architects to see for someone to come in and so we can tell our ideas to and they can put it to fruition together. What we’re really wanting to do, I know the board the last time we spoke on this, what we’re really wanting to do is really take care of our dispatchers. You know, those men and women are in a tough place every day when they come in.”

“We’re projecting a year, but that’s just a placeholder is all that is. We don’t know, it may take less time, it may take more time,” said Todd. “It just depends on what the envelope looks like once we get inside there.”

As for now, LEMA has been moved to the Meridian Public Safety Training Facility on Sandflat Road, the county fire service has been moved to the old central garage off 6th street, and the permit office has been moved to the old Lauderdale County Courthouse on Constitution Avenue. E-911 will remain on-site in a portable building.
