JACKSON — Mississippi residents will be able to fish without a license on several days this summer as part of National Fishing and Boating Week and the state’s annual Free Fishing Days program.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks announced that June 6-7 and July 4 have been designated as Free Fishing Days across the state, giving residents an opportunity to enjoy Mississippi’s lakes, rivers and streams without purchasing a fishing license.

The first two free fishing days coincide with National Fishing and Boating Week, which runs June 6-14 and encourages people across the country to get outdoors and experience recreational fishing and boating.
During June 6 and 7, Mississippi residents may fish without a license on public waters. Fishing permits also will not be required at state fishing lakes and state park lakes during those two days.
An additional Free Fishing Day is scheduled for July 4. On that date, residents may fish without a license on Mississippi’s public waters, but permits will still be required at state fishing lakes and state park lakes.
Wildlife officials said the program is designed to introduce new anglers to the sport while giving experienced fishermen and families an opportunity to spend time outdoors together.
MDWFP encourages residents to take advantage of the free fishing opportunities and use the events to introduce children, friends and family members to fishing and boating.
