MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Jamir Wilson, a murder suspect, was captured Friday evening after escaping from Meridian Police custody. He was found hiding under a house in the 300 block of 23rd Avenue South.
The incident began around 5:30 PM when Wilson was able to escape from the Meridian Police Department. Officers immediately launched a search in the area, utilizing K-9 units to track him down. The dog alerted officers to Wilson’s location under the house, leading to his swift recapture.
Assistance in the search came from multiple agencies, including the Meridian Fire Department, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, and the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency (LEMA). Acting Captain Dareall Thompson of the Meridian Police Department expressed gratitude to all agencies involved for their support during the operation.
Wilson is connected to the murder of Marquel Holcombe, 32, who died from injuries sustained in a shooting on August 12. Coroner Stella McMahan confirmed Holcombe’s death following a shooting incident at the intersection of 40th Avenue and Paulding Street around 2:00 AM that day. Holcombe was initially transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to a facility in Jackson for further treatment.
The Meridian Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit is currently investigating the case.
