MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Long-time Lauderdale County Supervisor Joe Norwood has officially qualified to run for the District 82 seat in the Mississippi House of Representatives. Norwood’s announcement comes after the passing of Representative Charles Young Jr. in December, which prompted the call for a special election to fill the seat.
“It is with a heavy heart that I seek this role, as Rep. Young was a dedicated public servant and a
dear friend,” said Norwood. “I hope to honor his legacy by continuing to serve our community
with integrity and commitment.”
The special election is scheduled for March 25, 2025, and will determine who will represent District 82, which includes parts of Lauderdale County. The qualification period for candidates ends on February 3.
“My goal is to ensure that the voices in the Lauderdale County community are heard at the state
level,” Norwood added. “I am committed to advocating for the needs of our residents and
working towards a brighter future for Lauderdale County”
