The tag team known as “Muddy Waters,” featuring wrestlers Ronald J. Williamson (RJW) and Gio Savage, made history on May 3 by becoming the first-ever Tag Team Champions of Magnolia Championship Wrestling.
Magnolia Championship Wrestling is a new promotion based in Mississippi and the Gulf Coast, but it carries on the state’s deep-rooted tradition in professional wrestling. With this victory, Muddy Waters joins a storied lineage of champions from Mississippi, a state known for producing iconic African American wrestlers such as Kamala, Junk Yard Dog, and Rodney Mack.
The win is particularly significant for Williamson and Savage, who view it as an opportunity to continue the legacy of African American excellence in the sport. The pair expressed their pride in standing alongside legendary wrestlers who have shaped the industry.
Magnolia Championship Wrestling is part of the independent wrestling scene, which continues to thrive across Mississippi, carrying on the spirit of the territory days when the state was a hotbed for professional wrestling.
Muddy Waters, with their rallying cry of “Let’s Get Muddy!” aims to not only defend their titles but also to promote awareness of independent wrestling in Mississippi, encouraging new fans to discover the rich history and excitement of the sport.
Williamson and Savage are committed to spreading knowledge of their promotion and independent wrestling, hoping to inspire the next generation of talent and fans alike.
