Meridian Public Schools to Conduct Mandatory Intruder Drills Jan. 20–23

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed)- All schools in the Meridian Public School District will conduct mandatory intruder drills Jan. 20–23 as part of ongoing efforts to ensure student and staff safety, district officials announced.

The drills will take place during regular school hours at all MPSD campuses and are required by state law. District leaders said the exercises are designed to help students and staff respond quickly and appropriately in the event of an emergency.

According to the district, students will practice safety procedures under the guidance of teachers and administrators, with law enforcement officers and school safety personnel present to assist. Officials said the drills will be conducted in a calm and age-appropriate manner.

Parents are encouraged to reassure their children that the drills are precautionary and similar to other safety exercises such as fire or tornado drills. Families with questions may contact their child’s school or the Office of School Safety. District officials emphasized that together, the community remains committed to keeping schools safe.
