Salvation Army thrift store in Meridian to close, plans to reopen at new site in 2026

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Meridian will close its current location but plans to reopen in a new site in October 2026, according to local Salvation Army leadership.

Sgt. Daniel Noland, commanding officer for The Salvation Army of Meridian, said the organization is currently holding sales for remaining merchandise and packing inventory as it begins the process of securing another location.

“Right now, we’re having sales to get everything sold, kind of packing everything away, and then we’re going to be working over the next few months to secure another location,” Noland said.

Noland cited declining activity in the area surrounding the current store as a key factor in the decision, along with building limitations.

“As you know, the location there, a lot of the businesses in the last few years have vacated, and we’ve lost a lot of traction,” he said. “Also, the location is no longer fit for us to operate at the high level that we need to. We think it’s best going forward, for this command and its ministry and mission, to find another location.”

Noland encouraged community members who may have potential leads on available properties to reach out.

“Keep an eye out for us. We’re still looking for the next location. If you have any connections you can send our way, we’d really appreciate it,” he said.

Despite the store’s closure, Noland emphasized that Salvation Army services in Meridian will continue and are expanding.

“Our ministry is alive and well. We have a lot of things going on,” he said. “We have a ribbon cutting ceremony for our Client Choice Market Place in May. We’re looking to do an after school music program coming up. Our Client Choice Market Place is better than ever. We just want to continue to do the work that we’re doing already and to impact this community even more this coming year.”
