Meridian Public School District Named District of Innovation by Mississippi Department of Education

PRESS RELEASE

Meridian, MS — The Meridian Public School District (MPSD) has been officially named a District of Innovation by the Mississippi Department of Education, marking a significant milestone in the district’s ongoing commitment to student success and forward-thinking education.

This prestigious recognition highlights the exceptional work taking place across MPSD schools and acknowledges the district’s dedication to fostering innovative, student-centered learning environments.

“This honor reflects the incredible work happening across our district every day,” said Superintendent Dr. Amy Carter. “Our teachers, staff, and especially our curriculum team have shown unwavering dedication, creativity, and commitment to our students. I could not be prouder of what we are accomplishing together.”

As a District of Innovation, MPSD will implement several key initiatives designed to expand opportunities for students at every level. These include the introduction of academy models at the middle school level, increased career exposure for elementary students, and continued efforts to ensure all graduates are prepared for life beyond high school—whether that path includes higher education, military service, entering the workforce, or entrepreneurship.

“Being named a District of Innovation allows us to think boldly about how we prepare students for the future,” Dr. Carter added. “We are creating learning experiences that are relevant, engaging, and aligned with the real-world opportunities our students will pursue.”

District leaders emphasize that this achievement is the result of a collective effort across all schools and departments.

“This recognition belongs to every member of our MPSD family,” Dr. Carter said. “Together, we are building a brighter future for our students and our community—and we are just getting started.”
