Kemper County correctional facility celebrates GED graduates

KEMPER COUNTY – Six incarcerated people at the Kemper County Regional Correctional Facility have earned their GED diplomas, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

MDOC officials said educational programs are an important part of the department’s mission to reduce recidivism, increase employability and help prepare people for life after release.

Derrick Chambers, director of private and regional facilities, commended Warden Byron Walker, Sheriff James Moore and education staff for their work providing opportunities that support rehabilitation and personal growth.

“Success stories like this reflect our continued focus on rehabilitation, accountability, and preparing individuals for a successful return to society,” Chambers said. “Education opens doors, creates opportunities, and helps individuals build a foundation for a better future.”

MDOC said the GED graduates are part of ongoing efforts to provide tools and resources that can help individuals become productive citizens after incarceration.
