MARION — The Town of Marion Police Department will host a free public class on the 911 system Saturday, July 11, at Marion Town Hall.
The class, titled “What’s Your Emergency?”, starts at 9 a.m. at the town hall, 6021 Dale Drive. It is open to residents, business owners, school personnel and law enforcement.
Attendees will learn how 911 operates as a core agency during emergencies and requests for service, what to expect when they call and what steps they can take beforehand to help dispatchers provide the best response for their home or business, according to organizers.
The session will feature real-life examples from inside 911 and an overview of the services dispatchers provide to Marion and neighboring communities they support. Time will be set aside for questions.
Organizers said the class is designed to help police strengthen communication with dispatch, teach citizens how 911 works and how they can help in an emergency, prepare businesses to protect their workforce and enhance safety and preparedness in schools.
The department thanked the Town of Marion for arranging the event.
