MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Meridian High School has completed construction of a new campus entrance, marking another project funded through the Meridian Public School District’s 2022 bond initiative.

District leaders, community members, local officials, alumni and project partners gathered Thursday morning on the Meridian High School campus to celebrate the completion of the project.

According to the City of Meridian, the entrance is one of several capital improvement projects financed through the district’s $34 million bond issue approved by voters in 2022. District officials said the bond was approved without increasing taxes for local residents.

The new entrance is designed to improve accessibility, enhance security and provide an updated appearance for the front of the campus.

“This project represents another important investment in the future of Meridian High School and our students,” Meridian Public School District Superintendent Dr. Amy Carter said. “We are grateful to the citizens of Meridian for their support of the 2022 bond initiative, which continues to provide meaningful improvements across our district without raising taxes.”

Meridian High School Principal Sherrod Miller said the new entrance represents more than a physical improvement to the campus.

“This beautiful entrance sets the tone for every student, family member, and visitor who walks through our doors,” Miller said. “It reflects the pride we have in Meridian High School and demonstrates our district’s commitment to providing top-notch facilities that match the excellence of our students, faculty, and staff. We are excited to welcome the Wildcat community into a space that showcases the traditions and bright future of Meridian High School.”

The entrance is among several facility upgrades underway across the Meridian Public School District as part of the voter-approved bond program. District officials have said the projects are intended to modernize school campuses and improve learning environments for students throughout the district.
