MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – City officials joined residents Wednesday to celebrate the opening of new pickleball courts at Northeast Park, marking the latest investment in Meridian’s parks and recreational amenities.

Mayor Percy Bland, Parks and Recreation Director Thomas Adams, city leaders and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the courts, which add another recreational option for residents.

Bland said the project reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to creating public spaces that strengthen the community.

“This is about more than opening new courts,” Bland said. “It is about continuing to build a sense of place by creating welcoming spaces where people can be active, spend time together and enjoy the community they call home.”

Pickleball, a paddle sport that has grown rapidly in popularity across the United States in recent years, continues to attract players of all ages. Adams said the new courts will help meet growing local interest in the sport.

“Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing activities in the country, and we are proud to give our residents another quality recreational opportunity right here in Meridian,” Adams said.

City officials said the new courts represent another step in Meridian’s continued investment in parks and public spaces designed to encourage recreation, health and community engagement.

The Northeast Park project is part of the city’s broader efforts to enhance amenities that bring residents together while expanding opportunities for outdoor activities.
