Sobriety checkpoints are used by law enforcement agencies to identify impaired drivers and discourage people from driving after consuming alcohol or other impairing substances. Advance publicity can also serve as a deterrent by making motorists aware that impaired-driving enforcement will be taking place.
Motorists approaching a checkpoint should be prepared to slow down and follow deputies’ directions. Drivers should have a valid driver’s license and comply with applicable Mississippi traffic laws.
The schedule released by the Sheriff’s Department provides specific dates, times and locations for each planned checkpoint. Checkpoint plans can be subject to change because of weather, emergencies or other law enforcement needs.
