MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – All Meridian Public School District campuses will conduct mandatory intruder drills during regular school hours Aug. 31 through Sept. 4 as part of the district’s ongoing school safety efforts.
The drills are required by state law and are intended to help students and staff prepare to respond quickly and appropriately in the event of an emergency, according to information released by the district.
Students will practice safety procedures under the guidance of teachers and administrators. Law enforcement and school safety officers will also be on site to assist with the drills.
District officials said the exercises will be conducted in a calm and age-appropriate manner and encouraged parents to reassure their children that the drills are designed to help keep students and staff safe, similar to fire or tornado drills.
“The safety and security of our students and staff remain our top priority at Meridian Public School District,” the district said in its announcement.
MPSD encouraged parents with questions or concerns about the drills to contact their child’s school or the district’s Office of School Safety.
The Meridian Public School District serves approximately 4,500 students across 10 school campuses.
