NESHOBA COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Neshoba County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as investigators work to identify who broke into an auto repair business and rummaged through approximately 10 vehicles.
The burglary occurred at Maxwell’s Auto Repair sometime between 5 p.m. Monday Aug. 31 and Tuesday 7:30 a.m. Sept. 1, according to the sheriff’s office.
The owner arrived for work Tuesday morning and discovered someone had broken into the business’s office. Investigators believe the person gained entry by pushing a small window air conditioning unit into the office, causing minor damage to the window frame.
Cash was stolen from a safe and the top drawer of a desk. Money was also taken from a candy jar being used by an employee’s child to sell candy, according to the Sheriff.
Investigators determined approximately 10 vehicles on the property had also been entered and rummaged through. Items inside the vehicles had been moved around, making it apparent someone had gone through them.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident as a commercial burglary along with 10 separate auto burglaries.
Investigators have spent significant time in the area in recent days but have developed little information about who may be responsible. Authorities are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity near the business between 5 p.m. Aug. 31 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 1 to come forward.
The sheriff’s office said it takes burglaries and break-ins seriously and that information from the public could be important to the investigation.
