PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed), The City of Philadelphia is asking residents to get ready now as Isaias moves toward Mississippi in a Facebook post earlier on Friday.
As of 1:01 p.m. Friday, Philadelphia and Neshoba County are under a Tropical Storm Warning. The City says residents should expect heavy rain and wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph.
Secure Outdoor Items
Strong winds can turn loose objects into flying debris. For this reason, the City asks residents to bring in or tie down patio furniture, outdoor decorations and other loose items before the weather gets worse.
Clear roads also matter. When debris stays out of the street, first responders and law enforcement can reach neighbors who need help.
Move Your Waste Pro Garbage Can
Waste Pro asked the City to remind residents to move garbage cans away from the roadside. Put your can in a safe place until the storm passes.
Keep in mind that residents and homeowners must replace damaged or unusable cans. Waste Pro will only pick up garbage placed in Waste Pro garbage cans.
Rain and Flooding Possible Inland
The storm’s worst impacts are expected along the Gulf Coast. However, the National Weather Service in Jackson said heavy rain, flooding and gusty winds will be possible further inland across the forecast area. mississippitoday
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency also reminds Mississippians to have enough supplies to last the first three days after a storm hits. That includes water, food, medicine, flashlights and batteries. mississippitoday
Strong wind can also bring down trees and power lines. Stay away from downed lines and report outages to your power provider, such as EMEPA or Mississippi Power.
Look Out for Each Other
The City asks everyone to watch for updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency officials. Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around and find another way.
Finally, check on neighbors who may need help getting ready, especially older adults and people who live alone.
“Let’s do our part to keep Philadelphia safe,” the City said. “Stay informed and use caution.”
Queen City Newsfeed will continue to follow Isaias and share updates as they come in.
