MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Merrehope held its annual open house on Sunday afternoon, inviting members of the community to come and see the progress going on inside the historic home.
Some of the restorations include a new main roof, new planks along the porch, repairs to indoor plumbing and leaky windows, and interior repairs to flooring and furniture.
And with the 2026 Trees of Christmas just around the corner, visitors were offered a chance to sign up to help out with the upcoming holiday events, as well as a pop-up sale with Christmas decorations from years past, to help visitors get an early start on their festive flair.
Albree Florey with Merrehope says it takes time to make progress when restoring a legacy home, but they’re grateful for the love and support of the community who keep it standing.
“Phase one has been completed and phase two is in the works. So we’ve got a lot of things out, a lot of grant work out. We’ve got a lot of things we’re working on with Archives and History, and of course raising money through our capital campaign so we can accomplish Phase 2,” said Florey. “We love Merrehope, and for the community to give hope to Merrehope, that’s what’s so important and that’s what’s keeping her standing and looking better than she has in a long time.”
Merrehope is again nominated for USAToday’s Top 10 Best Holiday Home Tours, and Mississippi Magazine’s Best Named Holiday Attraction.
