NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Queen City Newsfeed) — Country music legend, actress and philanthropist Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, according to announcements from her family and representatives Tuesday.
Parton rose from humble beginnings in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee to become one of the most influential figures in country music, with a career spanning more than six decades. She was known for timeless hits including “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “I Will Always Love You,” while also earning acclaim as an actress in films such as 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias.
Beyond her entertainment career, Parton was widely recognized for her philanthropy through the Dollywood Foundation and Imagination Library, which has provided hundreds of millions of free books to children around the world. She also supported disaster relief, education and medical research throughout her life.
Parton’s family said she died peacefully in Nashville. Funeral arrangements are expected to be private. No additional details were immediately released.
