A man found dead on the campus of Delta State University has been identified.

In a press conference held today, Delta State University President Daniel Ennis identified the student as 21-year-old Trey Reed from Grenada, Mississippi.

Delta State’s Director of Public Safety Mike Peeler said University Police were called around 7 a.m.
The caller said there was a black male “hanging from a tree” near the central campus’ pickleball courts.
“Mr. Reed’s next of kin have been notified. At this time, there is no evidence of foul play,” Peeler said.

He added that Reed’s body has been recovered by the Bolivar County Coroner’s Office and that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department have been called in to assist in the investigation.

Counseling and support services are available to students, faculty, and staff through the O.W. Reilly Counseling Center. All Centennial events and classes scheduled for Thursday have been canceled.

University officials said updates will be released when appropriate and asked the community for understanding and compassion during this difficult time.
