JACKSON – Former Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba has pleaded plead guilty to conspiracy on Monday in connection with a federal bribery case tied to a proposed downtown convention center hotel project.
Lumumba is scheduled to appear before U.S. District Judge Daniel Jordan at 1:30 p.m. for a change of plea hearing.
He had previously pleaded not guilty to five counts connected to the alleged bribery scheme. Federal prosecutors have said the case involved efforts to move forward with plans for a convention center hotel in downtown Jackson.
Additional details about the expected plea were not immediately available.
Last Monday, June 29, Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens pleaded guilty Monday to a federal conspiracy charge in the public corruption case tied to a proposed downtown Jackson convention center hotel project and resigned from office.
