LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Firefighters responded to a fully involved structure fire Sunday evening at the building formerly home to the Far Away Places restaurant along Dale Drive near Marion.
The fire was reported around 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6.
Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency Director Odie Barrett said firefighters arrived at the scene and found the structure fully engulfed in flames.
Officials were not aware of anyone being inside the building at the time of the fire.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze before investigators could safely enter the structure. Officials were expected to determine whether anyone had been inside and begin investigating what caused the fire.
The fire was reportedly the second at the location within recent years.
Emergency response activity prompted drivers to avoid Dale Drive when entering the Town of Marion from Meridian while crews worked at the scene.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday evening.
