MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Firefighters responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon at the intersection of 26th Avenue and 10th Street in Meridian, according to Fire Chief Michael Evans.
The fire was reported around 4 p.m. on March 26. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy flames coming from the roof of the building.
“As soon as Engine One got here, they said they had heavy fire coming out of the roof of it,” Evans said.
Firefighters initiated a defensive attack and were able to bring the fire under control within about 30 minutes, Evans said.
An investigation into the cause of the fire began roughly an hour after crews arrived. Evans noted the structure has caught fire multiple times in the past year.
“I think this is the second or third time it’s caught on fire since last year. We’re going to do an investigation and determine what happened,” he said.
Officials said it does not appear that anyone was inside the building at the time of the fire.
“If anything else happens, I’ll let you know,” Evans said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
