JACKSON – Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced the completion of Operation United Front, a human trafficking operation in Jackson that resulted in two arrests and the recovery of seven victims.
According to Fitch’s office, the operation was carried out April 15 by the attorney general’s Human Trafficking Task Force in coordination with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
“My office is committed to taking criminals who traffic people off the streets and equally committed to setting victims on the road to recovery,” Fitch said in a statement. “Developing partnerships with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies across the State is a priority for the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, and we are proud to be a part of a network of dedicated law enforcement agencies that work to end human trafficking.”
The attorney general’s office said investigators and prosecutors worked with multiple agencies during the operation, including Alcoholic Beverage Control, the FBI, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Capitol Police, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Jackson Police Department.
Compass Connections, which administers the National Human Trafficking Hotline, observed the operation, including victim advocacy services, according to the attorney general’s office.
The Center for Violence Prevention and Domestic Abuse Family Shelter provided services and treatment to the victims recovered during the operation, officials said.
Fitch’s office said that since launching its “Be the Solution” initiative, it has trained 588 officers across Mississippi. The attorney general’s human trafficking team has also led 62 multi-jurisdictional operations that have resulted in the recovery of 387 victims and 200 arrests, along with additional leads aimed at disrupting trafficking operations across the state.
