Meridian, Miss. – On Tuesday, June 23, the Community Foundation of East Mississippi will join communities across the nation in celebrating TogetherTuesday, a new national day of community action designed to inspire acts of kindness, generosity, and neighborly connection.
TogetherTuesday encourages individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and community groups to participate in simple acts of generosity that strengthen communities and create meaningful connections. Whether buying someone a cup of coffee, checking on a neighbor, volunteering, supporting a local business, donating food, planting flowers, or simply offering words of encouragement, every act of kindness matters.
To launch the day locally, nonprofit leaders and community partners will gather at Dumont Plaza at 9:00 a.m. wearing their nonprofit organization shirts to demonstrate the collective impact of the nonprofit sector and encourage residents to participate throughout the day.
“TogetherTuesday is a reminder that generosity doesn’t have to be complicated,” said Christin Waters of the Community Foundation of East Mississippi. “Small acts of kindness have the power to create lasting impacts and strengthen the connections that make our communities thrive.”
The initiative serves as a mid-year opportunity to continue the spirit of generosity between annual GivingTuesday celebrations and reinforces the idea that community care is something we can practice every day.
Community members are encouraged to share their acts of kindness on social media and inspire others to participate. Examples of participation include:
- Buying coffee or lunch for someone
- Supporting local businesses
- Donating canned goods
- Checking on elderly neighbors
- Volunteering time or talents
- Hosting a neighborhood gathering
- Planting flowers or trees
- Writing thank-you notes to community heroes
