Meridian leaf pickup starts Nov. 9: What residents need to know

MERIDIAN, Miss. — Meridian residents preparing for fall yard cleanup are being asked to keep leaves and pine straw separate from limbs and branches as the city gets ready to begin its annual leaf collection season.

The City of Meridian announced that collection will begin Nov. 9, 2026, and continue through March 8, 2027. The city is partnering with Waste Pro for the seasonal effort, which carries the message “L.E.A.F. — Lift Every Area Forward.”

For residents, the central instruction is simple: Make two separate piles.

One pile should contain only leaves and pine straw. Limbs, branches and sticks belong in a second pile, separated according to the city’s yard debris guidelines. Solid items and other debris should never be mixed into leaf piles, the city said.

Public Works Director David Hodge said residents’ cooperation can help crews work more efficiently as they serve neighborhoods.

“Something as simple as separating your piles helps our crews serve neighborhoods more efficiently,” Hodge said. “We appreciate our residents doing their part and our valued, continued partnership with Waste Pro.”

The city described the seasonal campaign as part of its ongoing work to keep streets cleaner, improve neighborhoods and strengthen city services. Officials are asking residents to help by sorting their yard debris correctly throughout the collection season.

Residents are encouraged to follow the City of Meridian’s official social media channels for leaf season reminders and collection information.
