MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Marty Stuart’s Congress of Country Music unveiled a new mural Tuesday honoring Lainey Wilson, titled “Wildflowers and Wild Horses” after her hit song.

The mural is on the west side of Queen’s Beauty Supply downtown. It is the newest piece in a growing mural series from Stuart’s Congress of Country Music.

Lainey Wilson got her first look at the mural and did not hold back her reaction. She said the welcome she received matched everything she’d heard about the town.

“I should have known just by getting to know Marty that y’all would be the same way of making people feel right at home,” Wilson said. “I am so proud to be here. I just want to say this mural is absolutely beautiful. This is incredible. So thank y’all for making me feel welcome in y’all’s beautiful town. I appreciate it.”

Stuart said the mural is a chance to give back to the town that raised him.

“It was one thing, whether I was on top of the world or on the bottom of the world, there was one place that I knew I could always get unconditional love and acceptance and support, and that was for my family and friends in Philadelphia, Mississippi,” Stuart said. “So, it’s nice to be able to come home after so many years of traveling and bring something to the town. And today, it’s my friend, Lainey.”

A’Darrius Hanible was chosen to create the artwork. He said it feels great to give back through his talents.

“I always wanted to leave my mark somewhere,” Hanible said. “And hopefully this mural stands here for a very long time. I always wanted to have something I can always look back on, especially how big this is, and say that I did that.”

Wilson is in Philadelphia is performing two benefit shows Tuesday night at the Ellis Theater, at 5:30 and 8:30.
