Meridian Homeless Outreach Plan Wins Council Support: What to Know

MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A new Meridian homeless outreach effort has the support of the City Council. Council President Dustin Hill said the council “approved and supported an alternative new solution.”

Hill shared the news in a video with Vice President Tracy Tims. The agenda for the Nov. 3 meeting lists a “homeless outreach and case management partnership agreement” with HealthCareOnTheGo, LLC.

Case management usually means a worker helps someone one on one. For example, that worker may help a person find housing, health care, or other services.

Who will do the work

HealthCareOnTheGo is based in Meridian. The company offers medical and mental health care, and it often sees patients in their homes. Tearrah Conerly, a nurse practitioner, founded it in 2018, according to the company.

Hill said the company will work with code enforcement officers from Community Development. It will also work with Meridian police and firefighters. Together, they will go out on the scene, he said.

Hill also praised the city administration, Community Development, and the Meridian Police Department. In addition, he said the plan follows the model of other cities that saw good results. However, he did not name those cities in the video.

Why city leaders say it matters

Hill said homelessness has been a big public safety topic since the campaign. He said that has stayed true during this council term, which began in July 2025.

“Tims and I are in agreement along with the other council members, this is a positive step for our community,” Hill said.

Ward 4 Councilwoman Romande Walker has also raised the issue. In July, she told WTOK she would like to see a resource center for people who are homeless.

What we do not know yet

The agenda and the video leave some questions open. So far, they do not say what the agreement will cost or how the city will pay for it. They also do not say when the work will start or how long it will last.

How you can get involved

Hill asked people who want to get involved to contact the city. He pointed them to the third floor auditorium at City Hall, where the council meets. City Hall is at 601 23rd Ave.
