MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Sailors at NTTC Meridian have traded their summer whites for winter blues. The change came just days after clocks fell back an hour.
Naval Technical Training Center Meridian shared the news on Facebook Thursday. The post also showed students during the command’s monthly march.
“Out with the Summer Whites, in with the Winter Blues!” the post said.
A Navy tradition each fall
Many Navy bases switch uniforms with the seasons. In warm months, sailors wear white. When the weather cools, they change to dark blue.
The command had some fun with the change. Its post said it was time to put away the bleach and the stain remover pens. Now, sailors are grabbing lint rollers instead. After all, white shows every stain. Dark blue, on the other hand, picks up lint.
The march stays the same
Also, the clocks changed this week. Daylight saving time ended Sunday, Nov. 1. However, the post said one thing does not change.
“Time Change, Uniform Change, but our monthly march down stays the same,” the post said.
The command praised the students who took part. “These Students practice all week for this moment, and they didn’t disappoint,” the post said.
Who trains at NTTC Meridian
The training center sits on Naval Air Station Meridian. Sailors come here right after boot camp. Then, they learn office and supply jobs.
According to the Navy, these jobs include logistics specialist, yeoman and personnel specialist. Students also train as retail services specialists and aviation maintenance administration workers.
The center opened in 1974. It is also known as the Stennis Center. In April 2024, it marked 50 years in Meridian.
So, if you spot sailors in dark blue around town this winter, now you know why.
