Newton Gas Station Clerk Charged with Selling Tobacco and Alcohol to Minor

NEWTON, Miss. – On June 3, the Newton Police Department, in partnership with a state law enforcement agency, conducted a targeted operation at the Marathon Gas station located at 303 Decatur Street. As a result of the investigation, Temeko Lakee Banks was arrested and charged with the sale of tobacco and beer to a minor.

The enforcement action is part of an ongoing effort by local authorities to crack down on the illegal sale of age-restricted products to underage individuals.

“Today, we stopped an individual from continuously allowing our youth to purchase items that are detrimental and poisonous to their body and mind,” said Interim Chief McKenzie Patrick. “We are thankful for the multi-agency collaboration as we work together to continue to make the City of Newton a safe community.”

Authorities say the operation was initiated following complaints from concerned citizens. The case remains under investigation.
