CLARKE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Clarke County Sheriff’s Department has taken a major step forward in transparency and accountability with the rollout of new body-worn cameras for its deputies. Sheriff Anthony Chancelor announced Friday, June 13, 2025, that the department has officially launched its body camera program, equipping patrol and corrections officers with the new technology following months of evaluation and planning.
Sheriff Anthony Chancelor’s Official Statement:
“When I decided to run for the office of Sheriff, one of my top priorities was to equip our deputies with
body worn cameras.
On Thursday, June 12 , 2025 this became reality. Many hours have been spent
evaluating this program as a whole. When dealing with the tax payer’s money, I believe it is my job to be
responsible with our money and still provide a quality service. In the first round purchased, we were
able to obtain 15 of these units. This will provide each patrol deputy with a camera and two for the
corrections officers on shift in the jail.
I commend Chief Deputy Billy Lewis for the countless hours he spent researching the different models
and programs available. We collectively decided on the Motorola Watchguard body camera system.
This system integrates with our existing jail and report writing system, ultimately saving tax payers.
With any new technology comes policies and training. Our deputies have been trained on this new
equipment and the policy that enforces it. There are also safe guards in place to protect the integrity of
the system. We believe that the new body worn camera program will help us better serve our
community.
I would also like to thank our County Board of Supervisors for helping make this happen. The supervisors
have been nothing but supportive as we make progress within in this office. This is a good day for our
county. I appreciate you all for the support as we continue to keep Clarke County a safe place to live and
raise our families.”
