MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Ward 4 Councilwoman Romande G. Walker has been awarded the designation of Advanced Certified Municipal Official by the Mississippi Municipal League (MML), marking a significant milestone in her public service career.
The recognition represents the second level in the MML’s Certified Municipal Official (CMO) program, which has provided training for elected municipal leaders since its inception in 2002.
“The Advanced CMO program provides the participants additional training to help them better prepare for economic development opportunities that might become available for their city,” said MML Executive Director Shari T. Veazey. “Being able to effectively lead their city toward economic development and growth is critical to all municipal officials.”
To earn the Advanced CMO designation, officials must first complete the Basic CMO certification, which focuses on the foundational aspects of municipal governance — including organization, law, finance, and land use. The Advanced level requires an additional 40 hours of coursework, emphasizing economic and community development.
Walker’s certification places her among a select group of officials across the state who have demonstrated continued commitment to professional development and public service.
