Bond set for Shuqualak man charged in fatal Porterville shooting

Duntavious Mosley, Kemper County Sheriff's Office

KEMPER COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A Shuqualak man accused in a fatal shooting in Kemper County is being held on a $300,000 bond.

During his initial appearance Tuesday at the Kemper County Courthouse, Duntavious Mosley was issued the bond and assigned a mandatory court date of Oct. 27, authorities said.

Mosley, 28, is charged with one count of murder in connection with a shooting that happened shortly after 11 a.m. Monday at a home on Porterville Road.

Deputies with the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office said they found one person inside the residence with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Witnesses told investigators a disturbance inside the home led to firearms being drawn and one person being shot.

Authorities said Mosley fled into a wooded area after the shooting but was taken into custody without incident when someone attempting to pick him up flagged down deputies.

The firearm believed to be used in the shooting was later recovered by deputies and conservation officers with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks during a grid search of the area.

Mosley remains in the Kemper County Jail. The investigation is ongoing, officials said.
