KEMPER COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – An inmate at the Kemper/Neshoba Regional Correctional Facility has been charged with arson after authorities say he set multiple fires inside his cell Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened around 2:43 p.m. in the F-Zone lockdown area of the facility, located on Stennis Industrial Park Road, according to the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Jamarius Rush ignited personal belongings inside his cell using a lighter, starting with Styrofoam cups before moving on to clothing and other items. He allegedly placed the burning materials outside his cell through the food tray slot.

The alleged repeated ignition of materials caused Rush to suffer burn injuries to his right hand, officials said. By setting the fires, Rush endangered himself, other inmates and correctional staff.

Rush was issued a $10,000 bond and has a mandatory court date set for Oct. 27.
