Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is urgently asking residents across the state to help address a life-threatening blood shortage by donating blood this Friday and Saturday, May 9–10, at one of its three donation centers in Flowood, Cleveland, or Oxford.
To thank donors for their life-saving contributions, MBS will provide a $20 VISA gift card to each person who donates.
According to MBS, blood inventory levels have dropped to dangerously low levels due to a nationwide decline in donations paired with increased hospital demand. The organization is especially in need of O negative, O positive, B negative, B positive, and A negative blood types.
“The need for blood is immediate. Every donation can save up to three lives,” said Kasey Dickson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at MBS. “There is no blood on the shelves. Without community support, essential medical procedures could be delayed—putting lives at risk.”
