JACKSON — James and Amelia were the most popular baby names in Mississippi in 2025, according to new data released by the Mississippi State Department of Health.
The Mississippi State Department of Health’s Office of Vital Records and Public Health Statistics compiles a list of the most popular baby names each year based on provisional birth certificate data for children born to Mississippi residents.
In 2025, 163 baby boys were named James, making it the most popular name for boys statewide. Amelia topped the list for girls, with 113 babies given the name. Both names saw a rise in popularity from last year, when James ranked third and Amelia ranked fourth in their respective categories.
Rounding out the top five most popular boy names were William, John, Noah and Elijah. The most popular girl names following Amelia were Charlotte, Olivia, Ava and Elizabeth.
Health officials said many names appearing on this year’s list also ranked highly in 2024, though several saw notable jumps in popularity. Weston and Stetson climbed into the top rankings for boys, while Delilah, Eden and Ailany rose in popularity among girls.
