Mississippi sheriff warns grass clippings on roads can create danger for motorcyclists

JONES COUNTY – Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin is reminding residents to keep grass clippings off roadways, warning that the debris can create dangerous conditions for motorcyclists.

In a public message, Berlin said spring and summer bring more yard work and more motorcycle traffic, a combination that can become hazardous when grass is blown into the road.

The sheriff said grass on the roadway can become slippery and cause motorcycles to lose traction, especially in curves or in areas where riders need to slow down or stop.

Berlin urged residents who are mowing their yards to blow grass back into the yard instead of onto the road.

The sheriff said taking that simple step can help prevent crashes and keep Jones County roads safer during the warmer months.
