JACKSON – The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks is encouraging landowners to participate in No Mow May by allowing grasses and wildflowers to grow during an important season for wildlife.

MDWFP said many landowners feel the urge to clean up their property by mowing fields, edges and road ditches. However, those areas often provide important habitat for birds, mammals and other wildlife.
According to MDWFP, grasses and wildflowers provide food and cover for wildlife while they build nests and raise their young during the summer months.
Wildlife officials said landowners can help protect Mississippi’s wildlife by parking their tractors and allowing plants to grow.
More information about habitat and wildlife management is available through MDWFP.
