MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A man was taken from the scene by ambulance early Friday morning after climbing a cell phone tower along Highway 19 near Meridian Community College.
According to Meridian Fire Chief Michael Evans, first responders were called to the tower around 1 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4.
Evans said the man had climbed the tower and told first responders he would only come down by helicopter.
The Meridian Fire Department positioned a ladder truck near the tower. After seeing the ladder, the man began making his way down the tower toward the truck without a helicopter being brought to the scene.
Video from the incident shows the man making his way down from the tower.
Once the man reached the ground, Meridian police placed him in handcuffs. Evans said the man was later turned over to Metro Ambulance and transported from the scene.
No additional information about what led to the incident or the man’s condition was immediately available.
