LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – A Lauderdale County man is facing arson charges after a string of fires broke out over the weekend in the Zero community, authorities said.
According to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, fire crews responded to reports of a structure fire on Friday, June 13 at 11:10 p.m., and again on Saturday, June 14 at 9:27 a.m., at the same mobile home located in the 500 block of Johnson Lane. In both cases, Long Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Clarkdale Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and Southeast Volunteer Fire & Rescue were dispatched and were able to extinguish the fires.
On Sunday, June 15 at 12:46 p.m., a separate mobile home in the same block of Johnson Lane was reported to be on fire. The same volunteer departments responded, along with deputies from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department.
A witness at the scene told deputies they saw a white male exiting the mobile home shortly before smoke began to appear. Deputies quickly located and arrested Joshua Mark Davis, who was taken into custody without incident.
At the time of his arrest, Davis had outstanding warrants for two counts of possession of a controlled substance and a probation violation. He is now also facing an arson charge in connection with the June 15 fire.
Davis is currently being held at the Lauderdale County Detention Facility without bond.
The cause of the previous two fires remains under investigation. Authorities said the case will be presented to the next available grand jury for further consideration.
