LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Lauderdale County Grand Jury for the June 2025 term returned 77 indictments and issued several recommendations related to public safety and infrastructure, according to a final report filed Tuesday with the Circuit Clerk’s Office.
Over the course of two days in session, jurors heard testimony from 13 witnesses, issued nine no true bills, and conducted a tour of the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.
In their report, jurors described the detention facility as “clean and safe but outdated,” and recommended upgrades to the building and its technology. In particular, they urged the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors to consider plans to renovate the jail and called for the replacement of the current security camera system, citing video lag issues.
The Meridian Police Department was also a focus of the report. The grand jury recommended the City of Meridian allocate funding for additional surveillance cameras in high-crime areas, based on crime data, to assist with prevention and investigation efforts.
Jurors further advised that MPD establish clear training protocols for detectives in the collection and preservation of evidence, including enforcement of consequences for noncompliance. A two-person verification system was also recommended to ensure proper handling of evidence.
The report concludes with a recommendation that the next grand jury follow up on the actions taken regarding this term’s recommendations.
The final report was signed and submitted on June 3, 2025, by Foreperson Robin Rosenbaum, who affirmed under oath that all indictments were concurred in by at least 12 members, with no fewer than 15 jurors present for all deliberations.
