MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – The Dusty Social Service Club hosted its 7th Annual Make-A-Wish Run at Bonita Lakes Park on May 30, raising a record-breaking $26,000 to help grant life-changing wishes for children battling critical illnesses.
“It’s the most we’ve ever raised doing the run,” said Lucy VanVeckhoven, president of the Dusty Social Service Club.
More than 400 participants joined the event, which featured a 5K run, a 2-mile walk, and a Kids Fun Run. Race timing was provided by Time 2 Run. The annual fundraiser is organized through the Dusty Social Service Club, an affiliate fund of the Community Foundation of East Mississippi.
“The Dusty’s have always loved the Make-A-Wish Foundation, we think it’s such a great cause,” VanVeckhoven said. “We always feel really happy to do it, and it’s so rewarding.”
The funds raised during the event will go directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, supporting its mission of bringing hope and joy to children facing life-threatening medical conditions.
“Make-A-Wish brings hope and joy to children during some of the most challenging times in their lives,” VanVeckhoven said. “We are incredibly grateful for the community’s support and generosity in making this year’s run a success.”
VanVeckhoven said the event has become a highlight of the year for club members. “This is something really fun that we like to do, and it’s probably our favorite event throughout the year.”
