MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Families in Meridian are invited to get a jump start on the upcoming school year at the Back to School Bash, hosted by Meridian Parks and Recreation on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon at Highland Park.
The annual event provides free school supplies to local students and brings together a variety of community partners, including civic groups, churches, and businesses, all with one goal: to support local youth as they head back to the classroom.
“This event really helps take some of the pressure off parents,” said Thomas Adams, Director of Meridian Parks and Recreation. “It’s all about making sure every child is prepared, no matter their circumstances.”
This year’s event is expected to offer essential school items like backpacks, notebooks, and pencils, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Reflections from 2024
Last year’s giveaway saw strong participation and positive community feedback. “What we saw today was children and very involved organizations speaking with the children, making sure that they had everything that they need to be successful for the school year,” parent Deona Fox said during the 2024 event.
Adams added at the time that events like this are crucial for families who may be facing financial hardship: “You never know someone’s situation… we want to make sure that all children have the necessary supplies to start school.”
